National Social Work Month; March 2023

It’s National Social Work Month!  The time to stay thank you and recognize all the hard work of social workers within the United States.  Within this month there will also be an international Social Work Month which lands on March 21st.  This day will celebrate social workers all over the world and all the ways they support others and fight against oppression and marginalization of people throughout the world.   This blog offers a big thank you to all social workers and look at the history of National Social Work Month.

Origins of National Social Work Month:

National Social Work Month began back in 1984 and has been celebrated ever since in the United States. Each March that comes along will showcase a specific social need that is needing more attention in the general community as well as trying to promote and increase the image and work of social workers.  Check out the source below is a quick source on National Social Work Month.

Thank you so much!

If you are a social worker, love a social worker, related to a social worker or have worked with a social worker at any time in your life, please make sure to take a moment to stay thank you.  I would like to thank all my social workers:

Thank you-

-staying out late to keep kids save.

-showing up even when it was hard.

-being the only support and light in a tough situation.

-missing time with your family, yourself or kids to work with other families.

-being the voice that speaks out against all the -isms in our society.

-for being the lone voice that draws attention to the stories we don’t see.

-all the long, unpaid hours even though you should have been paid for each of them.

-the interns that don’t know what they are doing and still show up.

-the old veterans who feel like they want to quit or don’t see a purpose.

-those juggling multiple obligations because social workers like to volunteer for everything!

-those who left the field because they were burned out and sick/tired.

-those who still show up and try their best.

-those who see the worst, more horrible things that other people do to each other.-

-those who still see the best in everyone.
